The Defense Advanced Research Agency (DARPA) has agreed to allow Aurora Flight Sciences to transition its X-Plane program technology to commercial applications, including expanding its research into commercial electronic vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) systems, the company has announced.

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, San Diego, Calif., is being awarded a $33,270,000 cost-plus-incentive-fee contract for the development, production, integration, and testing of nine radar systems on the MQ-8B Fire Scout Vertical Take-off and Landing Tactical Unmanned Air Vehicle. The company also received a $19,166,627 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for logistics services in support of the MQ-8B Fire Scout Vertical Take-Off and Landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity.

Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, Aerospace Systems Unmanned Systems, San Diego, California, is being awarded a $42 million contract modification to convert eight Army Vertical Takeoff and Landing Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to Navy configuration. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
