Abstract: In 2010, the Secretary of Defense formally provided direction to consolidate the DoD IT infrastructure and generate savings in the way the DoD manages IT.  The DoD has been moving to comply with this initiative and delivered a strategy for delivering the joint environment in the DoD It Enterprise Strategy & Roadmap, which was signed by the Deputy SECDEF on 5 October 2011.

·         JIE ensures capabilities are available from the DoD Cloud anytime, anywhere to increase mobility and lethality while retaining survivability.  Improvements in network integration empower a more cohesive, agile, innovative and responsive signal workforce.

·         JIE consolidates the Top-Level Security Architecture through Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS) to decrease connection points and implement a defendable perimeter.

·         JIE expands continuous network monitoring to improve security of our infrastructure.

·         DoD is building highly capable cyber teams to secure, recognize and react to threats to our networks.  A streamlined training pipeline is required to provide highly trained quality cyber forces without training redundancies and at a manageable cost.

·         Shift focus from technology to providing services and redundant data storage which is accessible and secure.

Key Outcomes: Participants will develop a basic understanding of the Joint Information Environment (JIE) and how the Armed services are moving to enable the Department to achieve JIE goals.  This briefing covers areas of integrating IT services to improve mission effectiveness, increased cybersecurity, and delivering IT efficiencies.
