LOS ANGELES CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jul 15, 2010

Colonel Focuses on Weather Satellite System

In July, the chapter invited guest speaker Col. Stephen C. Pluntze, USAF, commander, Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Systems Group (DMSG), Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. DMSG is the U.S. Defense Department's sole operational weather satellite system. The $3.5 billion system equips worldwide strategic and tactical forces with weather and space environmental data for planning and executing aerospace, ground and naval operations. Col. Pluntze is directly responsible for the development, test, acquisition and sustainment of these satellites, sensors and ground systems to meet warfighter requirements. The chapter also presented a Disabled Veteran Scholarship to Carlos Lopez, who served with the U. S. Navy in Bahrain during the Enduring Freedom operations. The Microsoft Employees Association presented Lopez with a $2,500 scholarship, which will aid him in his pursuit of computer science and psychology degrees.
