Awards Banquet Honors STEM Students

The chapter held its annual Awards Banquet May 8 at the Maryland Golf and Country Club, honoring its scholarship awardees, five deserving students from local schools planning to pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering and math subjects. The recipients were John Goodman, Micah Jaffe, Matt Mellarkey, Kourtney Rutkowski and Mauricio Tassano. Guest speaker Gary Martin, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command deputy to the commanding general, gave an inspiring and humorous keynote about the sacrifices and great rewards of hard work toward a technical degree. Also recognized were two exceptional local teachers with Science Teacher Toolkit Awards, Gareth Davis and Russell Kovac. Chapter awards were presented to: Tim Jahnigen, Regional Distinguished Young AFCEAN and Exceptional Service Award; Stacy Kauffman, Distinguished Young AFCEAN; Mike Bowen, Young AFCEAN Emerging Leader; Angela Sheldon, Exceptional Service Award; Margaretann Provenza, Volunteer of the Year Award; and Christa Dahlem and Chuck Patterson, Chapter Advocate Awards. The evening concluded with the installation of new chapter officers.
