LEXINGTON-CONCORD CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jun 26, 2013 |
Chapter Contribution Helps Launch Rocket Day |
The chapter's Young AFCEANs (YACs) participated in the Hanscom Air Force Base Middle School 7th grade Rocket Launch Day in June. Bud Vazquez, chapter first vice president, joined the YACs, including Kate Stowe, chapter vice president for Young AFCEAN affairs, and Matt Deutsch, Rocket Box program coordinator, in helping the kids set up launches and assisted in the launch sequence demonstrating how science and aeronautics can be fun. Rocket Box is a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiative providing middle school participants with necessary resources to hold a week of rocketry at their school, giving students hands on experience in the interdisciplinary aspects of science and math. This annual event, which expanded to three schools in the Hanscom Air Force Base area this year under the leadership of Deutsch, was made possible by the chapter's $2,000 Education Fund contribution and the selfless commitment of the Young AFCEANs to make Rocket Day a success. |
