Young AFCEANs Raise Money for Local STEM Programs

More than 100 runners and volunteers gathered in November for the second annual Young AFCEA Aberdeen 5K Run and 1M Walk for STEM Education at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland. The event raised nearly $6,000 in support of this year's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) beneficiaries: the Harford County Public Libraries Little Leapers Program and the STEM Forum. Little Leapers provides interactive science kits for kids 5 and under, distributed throughout 10 branches of the Harford County Public Library System. The STEM Forum is a collaboration of educational and business organizations brought together by the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council and Aberdeen Proving Ground with a goal of ensuring the success of Harford County students in critical, high-impact STEM careers. This year's event featured Barbara Caravan, superintendent for Harford County Public Schools, and a post awards speech by Gary Martin, deputy commander, Army Communications and Electronics Command.
