41 Scholarships Awarded to STEM Scholars

In June, the chapter's Educational Foundation honored the 41 winners of the 2015-16 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) scholarship awards. The scholarship winners were students with exemplary backgrounds of service to the country and community, academic accomplishment and commitment to pursuing degrees in STEM technical fields that support national security. Since its inception, the AFCEA NOVA Scholarship Program has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to more than 400 recipients. This year, the chapter introduced a scholarship named for one of its founding members, Chuck Corjay, that will exist in perpetuity. Corjay, over many years, has symbolized what it means to be a volunteer, leader and patriotic citizen. He has given back to the community in many ways, but he has been especially devoted to fostering the education of young men, women, and veterans in STEM. This year's Corjay Scholarship award winner is Alyssa Ciardiello, who is attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. She is pursuing a degree in aeronautics, serves in the ROTC and is a graduate of Loudoun County High School in Virginia.
