ALAMO CHAPTER CHAPTER - Nov 08, 2018

Alamo Chapter Event Breaks Record Numbers

This year's Alamo Chapter Event (ACE) in November was a top-notch event that broke records and barriers over three days filled with speakers, engagements and exhibits. The event hosted 2,500 attendees and welcomed back the Mayor of San Antonio Ron Nirenberg, as well as the new 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio Commander Brig. Gen. Laura Lenderman, USAF. Gen. Lenderman gave an overview of Joint Base San Antonio explaining that it is the largest contingent of cyber outside of the metropolitan DC area. She also brought Col. Melchizedek "Kato" Martinez, USAF, to the stage to thank him for his selfless service and sacrifice during the 2016 terrorist attack in Belgium. "No one stands alone. We wrap our arms around each other through the most difficult times because together we are stronger." The thread of this year's theme, "The Next Frontier - Transforming Enterprise Ops to Multi-Domain Ops," was woven throughout every speaker and presentation. Lt. Gen. Bob Wood, USA (Ret.), executive vice president, AFCEA International, announced that the Alamo Chapter is now the 5th largest chapter of the organization. The chapter received a $1,000 check for reaching 1,000 members. The chapter in turn presented Gen. Wood with a $13,500 check to the AFCEA International Education Foundation. Deloitte sponsored the "Capture the Flag" event for the second year in a row. Texas A&M Aggiebytes snagged the win for 2018. Every even year brings the Wounded Warrior to Military Families Endowment Fund Benefit event. This year's event had entertainment from the band Johnny P & The Wise Guys as well as PLINKO, food and some very generous donations. The chapter hopes to see attendees back next year, November 18-21, 2019.
