ALAMO CHAPTER CHAPTER - Apr 16, 2019 |
Expert Discusses Cybersecurity and Risk Management |
The chapter welcomed Brig. Gen. Greg Touhill, USAF (Ret.), president, Cyxtera Federal Group, and a lifetime member of AFCEA International, to speak to the chapter regarding managing cyber risk. "People, processes and technology are the three main focal points of cybersecurity," stated Gen. Touhill. Cybersecurity is not a technology problem, but a risk management issue. "The battlefield is changing and we're losing the war." He explained that traditional cybersecurity solutions fail to stop modern threats since most people believe that trust is presumed and not earned. When people place value on the data there will always be a need for an alignment of defense based on the risk. Cloud services also pose distinct cybersecurity challenges. "Many organizations will jump on cloud services without the proper level of security." Security, portability, independent auditing, pen testing and log access are all required when using cloud services. If all of these things are incorporated into the process and partnered with training, the possibility of a secure environment greatly increases. "People, processes and technology can work together to provide the security needed to manage cybersecurity and mitigate risk." |
