Women in AFCEA Event WEST 2014
Featuring the inaugural Women in AFCEA Appreciation Award Ceremony and "We Served Too" WASP Documentary Showing
The inaugural Women in AFCEA Appreciation Award winners were presented with their awards by Sandi King, Chair of the Women Subcommittee of AFCEA International’s Membership Committee. They were chosen for facilitating mentorships or personally mentoring female professionals; their promotion of STEM scholarships and careers to female students; their sponsorship of female candidates for promotions at their company/agency; and their development of shared opportunities for females to network, learn new skills, develop professionally, etc. Three winners were chosen from thirteen nominees.
The Women Appreciation Event at WEST 2014 also featured “We Served Too”, an inspiring short documentary on the contributions made by the Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs) during World War II. This show was first shown on PBS on Veteran’s Day and Jill Bond, the producer and director of the show was on hand to make some opening remarks. Margot Beh, a WASP-in-training also attended the event with her husband, Ed. “We Served Too: The Story of the Women's Airforce Service Pilots of WWII” won the Gracie Award for Outstanding Documentary.
