Update and FAQ regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

AFCEA International is closely following developments regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). The health and safety of our members, registrants, exhibitors and staff is our highest priority, and we will continually monitor reports from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and will adjust plans as needed. Our thoughts are with all of those who are currently impacted.

For details regarding specific AFCEA International headquarter event postponements, please refer to the website for each event.

The most up-to-date information for AFCEA International chapter events can be found on the chapter or chapter event website or the AFCEA calendar.

AFCEA International is implementing all guidance and recommended safety measures issued by WHO, CDC, and state and local health authorities. We will work with all vendor providers, event management companies, metropolitan convention centers, A/V, catering, technology vendors and AFCEA staff to ensure the safety of all meeting and conference participants.

Attendees and exhibitors will see heightened levels of cleanliness and onsite accommodations to encourage all show participants to take common-sense precautions following CDC guidelines.  AFCEA International is taking steps to ensure that all event service providers take appropriate protective measures and provide up-to-date information for staff and partners. Additionally, AFCEA International will work with all event service providers to ensure that adequate additional precautionary measures are in place, including increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting of commonly touched objects; posting informational signage; and maintaining communication with local health agencies.

Both the WHO and CDC recommend basic personal hygiene and healthy travel practices to reduce the transmission of disease, including the following:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid handshaking and hugging. Instead, greet colleagues, customers and other attendees with an “elbow bump.”
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick; stay home when sick, except to get medical care.
  • Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If no tissue is available, cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Stay up to date on vaccinations.
  • Avoid contact with animals while traveling.
