Women In the Workplace 2021

The 2021 Women in the Worforce event will occur on September 1, 2021. Details will be posted soon.

But you don't have to wait. The 2020 event is available on demand.

Women in the Workforce: A Journey in STEM featured discussions about the challenges professional women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics experience beginning in grade school and moving through college and into their early careers. Among the topics examined will be potential ways to address these challenges and help young women consider STEM careers for their future.

The event highlighted senior career women including those in academia and non profits sharing their personal journeys and offering advice to both women and men about how they can work in K-12 and college programs to encourage girls to explore and pursue STEM education and careers, and how they can hire, promote, encourage, mentor, coach and sponsor women STEM professionals in the workplace. These discussions are invaluable for women in their early- to mid-career and informative for women and men about why many girls distance themselves from the path that can lead to successful careers in STEM fields and why many women do not choose to stay in STEM careers. The event will conclude with interactive small group sessions and opportunities to network with speakers and other attendees in AFCEA’s professional community.

Rear Adm. Danelle Barrett, USN (Ret.), during her keynote speech, shared her story about overcoming barriers:
