JPL is a federally funded research and development center that is operated by the California Institute of Technology. The company performs research, development and other specified tasks for NASA. JPL's primary mission is space exploration and earth sciences, using automated spacecraft such as the Voyager, Galileo, Cassini and Mars Pathfinder missions and remote-sensing instruments.
