The Key to Unlocking Cloud Backup and Recovery AFCEA International
09/24/2014 cloud, storage, data protection,
As many federal agencies move to the cloud, the common complaint that emerges is that data protection is too slow, too expensive, and too risky and they are quick to blame their backup software. While it's true that many modern backup architectures fall short of meeting today's recovery needs, the culprit is often the surrounding infrastructure. That is why many organizations today are looking to cloud storage to aid in their backup and recovery strategies. While disk is certain to continue to be the recovery tier of choice, extending your data protection to the cloud can solve many of the challenges that organizations face in seeking better backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity today. From this webinar, you will learn how cloud- integrated storage can help you: - Cut data volumes by 90% and reduce transport times by 75% - Shrink recovery times and reduce data loss - Ensure company data is safe and compliant in the cloud - Mitigate risks related to disaster recovery and vendor lock-in - Cope with large volumes of data and limited bandwidth

Previously, he has developed IT infrastructure solutions that support more than 400,000 users worldwide in the federal, defense, energy, biotech, and entertainment sectors. He has managed numerous IT and data center consolidation projects that produced cost savings in system development and support while improving customer satisfaction. Onstott is an active contributor to SAIC¿s ongoing research into emerging technology. In 2010, Onstott established SAIC¿s Enterprise Solutions Lab which is a hybrid cloud used for research and development and a cloud computing center of excellence. In 2008, he was awarded the Information Technology and Network Solutions Group Excellence Award for Science and Technology. In 2010, he sponsored an SAIC Annual Achievement Award for Technical Collaboration for SAIC¿s Enterprise Private Cloud project. He holds a B.A. from Oklahoma State University and an M.A. from The University of Chicago. Topic: Cyber Security Readiness ¿In an effort to improve the overall security posture of DoD organizations, unannounced cyber security inspections are becoming more common and require organizations to have a continuous state of readiness. Most organizations have tools and processes that are not fully utilized and implemented to keep them in a continuous state of readiness. We will share some examples of how customers have moved to a more continuous state of readiness and share our best practices in establishing and maintaining continuous monitoring. We will also discuss the impacts that moving to DIARMF from DIACAP will have on day to day operations.
