| Chapter Focus |
AFCEA UK Southern's footprint covers the south of the UK and encompasses the Naval weapons engineering and warfare schools, the Army's CIS school, the maritime and land front line command HQs, the UK Defence Academy, and the UK Government Defence Laboratories. With the exception of the sub-chapter at the Army CIS School, the majority of our membership comes from local defence industries.
UK Southern has again had a busy year with all bar two planned meetings run - one postponed due to speaker illness, the other thru speaker withdrawal at last minute . The Chapter breaks even or makes a small profit on monthly events. As a consequence we are able make donations to the AFCEA UK Academic Trust and to other military focused charities. All of our events, publicity, committees etc. are available on the AFCEA UK website at www.afcea.org.uk/south. Additionally, we use linked-in, twitter and facebook to advertise events. The committee also uses a 'wiki' site to provide a shared working environment, this has greatly aided business. An example of one of our major events is our biennial symposium on the theme of Shared UK Information Environment which was successfully run in November and attended by AFCEA CEO and Euro GM.
Membership has grown this year,in major part due to our concerted effort to engage active military more by making servicemen and servicewomen and defence civil servants attendance free at events. This has resulted in a significant increase in MoD attendance. |
