-- FOREWORD --
Cloud Computing is a paradigm shift in provisioning IT services. It offers scalable, standardized services at a flexibility not seen before, as well as cost benefits. This can be argued for both the private sector and the public sector. However, access to cloud services in Europe is still hampered by a number of uncertainties and challenges, which vary from use case to use case. Depending on the type of data, type of service, and need for control, adoption of the cloud may be impeded by legal, technical, operational or economic barriers.

It was the first time that AFCEA Europe and the European Security Round Table (eSRT) ran jointly and in cooperation with the European Commission Directorate General CNECT an event on “Cloud 4 Europe”, a highly topical theme that affects all of us and dominates the IT-related public discussions and so for sure also influences the debates and decision making processes of the European institutions over the next years.

The symposium comprised keynote speeches, plenary sessions and workshop discussions as well as a theme related table top exhibition on leading edge technology and cloud related software applications. Coffee breaks, a lunch break and a reception at the end of the symposium with a standing buffet provided broad opportunities to discuss topics of personal interest and to socialize with attendees to be expected from the European Parliament, the European Commission, national governments and industry.
