CAMP PENDLETON CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jul 21, 2010

Technologist Tackles Cloud Computing

The chapter's July luncheon focused on "The State of Cloud Computing: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow." Scott Dowell, enterprise technologist, Navy and Marine Corps Technology Center, Computer Sciences Corporation, served as the guest speaker and began his presentation by discussing the potential of cloud computing. Dowell touched on service types and deployment models along with private cloud and community cloud projects within the Defense Department, federal and state governments. He explained that organizations want a process to safely integrate cloud services as part of their enterprise architecture, and he concluded by describing the power of cloud computing in the future. In this architecture, Dowell explained that cloud services increasingly use policy-driven automation or orchestration to enforce service-level agreements enabling the net-centric vision. Dave Grundies, regional vice president, then presented the chapter with its 2010 Model Chapter banner. Albert Gunnarson III, Gunnarson Spraker Foundation board member and a major contributor to the Wounded War Veterans Scholarship, also attended the luncheon.
