Developing and Preserving the Joint Force

In November, the chapter welcomed Monica Shephard, deputy vice director, Joint Staff J-7, who began working for the Navy in 1981 and now holds the senior civilian executive role for the Joint Staff in Suffolk. She oversees an organization that aims to preserve and develop the joint force. She assumed the role of J-9 deputy director in 2008 and remained until 2011, when the command was officially disbanded. She delivered her presentation, “Decade of War,” sharing her experiences in the Joint Forces Command, which began back in 2004. Her experiences include working as the lead for the Prototype Pathway Project as well as the Innovation Group director role, which she assumed in 2006.
