GREATER OMAHA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jan 29, 2015

New C2 Facility Supports Global Services

In January, Col. Jeffrey May, USA, deputy director, command, control, communications and computer systems, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, provided an overview to the chapter on the new Strategic Command and Control (C2) Facility that's under construction. Col. May commented the C2 Facility will support a host of global C2 services under one roof. Col. May talked about the LeMay Complex transitioning from a singular focus of nuclear deterrence to a broader mission set over the years. In turn, the increased need for dynamic services required a more robust communications infrastructure in order to support. This is the impetus behind the new Strategic C2 facility, slated for completion in 2018. He highlighted several IT enhancements that will be featured with the new facility. Col. May concluded by pointing out the role of the USSTRATCOM Program Office is to handle details of the building, while the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command handles the internal infrastructure.
