Luncheon Explores Digital Twin Technologies

In November, the chapter hosted a luncheon at the Army Navy Country Club to dine and discuss, "Digital Twins for Warfighting." The keynote speaker, Young J. Bang, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army, Acquisition Logistics & Technology, introduced the crowd to ideas and concepts involved with building next-generation digital twins to strengthen warfighting capabilities. A deeper exploration of digital twin history, use cases, benefits and challenges were presented during the engaging panel discussion hosted by Col. Candice E. Frost, USA (Ret.). The panelists, all experts in numerous technological disciplines, included: Joseph T. Hays, Maj. Michael "Orbit" Nayak, USAF (Ret.), and Harry Wingo. The thought-provoking exchanges between the panelists, as well as the Q&A from the audience, clearly yielded a rewarding luncheon experience for all in attendance. Key takeaways: 1) Foreign nations are utilizing this technology today in an attempt to close the gap between their militaries and that of the United States; 2) The U.S. Department of Defense and intelligence community must continue to leverage digital twin technology to anticipate threats, plan through various warfighting scenarios and demonstrate unpredictable ingenuity in the pursuit of desirable mission outcomes.
