Education Foundation Supports Local STEM Organizations

The Alamo AFCEA Education Foundation (AAEF) supports San Antonio area STEM organizations and local area STEM educational development opportunities within the Alamo AFCEA region. In January, AAEF leadership participated in the first Alamo STEM Youth Summit.

The Alamo STEM Youth Summit, designed by student leaders from San Antonio schools, brought key community leadership together to educate and inform students. The event, pioneered by the Intercultural Development Research Association, which manages the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense STEM Education Consortium, the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology and the CyberTexas Foundation, was hosted at St. Mary's University in San Antonio.

The Youth Summit brought 400 local middle and high school students together to participate in scientific demonstrations, learn about STEM career opportunities in San Antonio and hear keynote speakers discussing the importance of STEM careers within the community.

The AAEF leadership spoke with teachers, students, and other STEM-related organizations in attendance, developing new partnerships to grow K-12 feeder school pathways. AAEF provided the 400 attendees with AAEF swag bags containing critical thinking and other STEM-relevant entertainment.

AAEF continues to interact and expand outreach with STEM partners in the region to increase STEM awareness and education.
