Why AFCEA? To Influence the Conversation
In 2017, upon my relocation to Northern Virginia, I recognized the need to establish a local network and stay well-informed to actively contribute to influential conversations. Joining AFCEA International proved to be a gamechanger in achieving these objectives.
My approach was multi-faceted, starting with attending local events. This initial step immersed me in the AFCEA ecosystem, gaining insights into its dynamics and learning how to navigate and thrive within it. The access to information and industry influencers at association and chapter events was invaluable, aiding me in aligning my capabilities with the prevalent needs.
To take my involvement to the next level, I applied to serve on various AFCEA committees, including the Small Business Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, the Technology Committee, the AFCEA Board of Directors and the AFCEA Marketing Task Force. Engaging in these committees provided me with direct access to government and industry influencers, enabling me to delve into mission-focused discussions. This involvement empowered me to craft solutions tailored to specific needs, leveraging the wealth of knowledge and expertise present in these committees.
The impact of my active participation extended beyond personal growth; it allowed me to influence the conversation within the AFCEA community. Drawing on the insights gained and becoming a trusted resource, I was invited to curate compelling topics and assembled panels that were featured at major events such as TechNet Cyber, TechNet Augusta, Alamo Ace, and AFCEA Homeland. This not only showcased my contributions but also positioned me as a thought leader within the AFCEA network.
The benefits of AFCEA membership for my small business exceeded all expectations. From heightened brand visibility and information exchange to expanding my professional network, AFCEA has proven instrumental. The ongoing dividends in terms of brand recognition, active engagement and the ability to influence industry discourse make it a worthwhile investment.
