ARGENTINA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Apr 27, 2007

In April the chapter sponsored a professional development course titled 'TOTAL CONVERGENCE: a global vision on the processing, transmission and availability of the information" that took place at Escuela Superior Técnica, a facility of the Argentinean Army in Buenos Aires. Chapter members Luis E. Valle and Alberto L. Favotto coordinated the event, which attracted 42 participants. Courses included presentations about new and future processors and storage systems, convergence in voice, data and video, digital content and Quantum computation among others. There were also practical applications and presentations of products from Avaya, Motorola, Antina, BGH and Nextel. The event supported the chapter's promotion of education in high schools and military schools with information technology and security programs. The chapter also discussed an initiative for training and awareness called 'IT and Everyday Security.' Guest speakers and attendees at the event represented government, private enterprise, military and security forces. Lt. Gen. John A. Dubia, USA (Ret.), executive vice president of AFCEA International, was in attendance and presented a check of $1,000 from the AFCEA Educational Foundation to Maj. Gen Francisco E. Machinandiarena, EA (Ret.), chapter president. Additionally, Gen. Dubia helped present a Distinguished Service to Education award to chapter member Capt. Angel Julio Palazzo, ARA (Ret.), for outstanding collaboration and contribution to the educational mission of AFCEA Argentina, especially in the fields of command, control, communications, computers and intelligence.
