Description: The AFCEA Shenandoah Rockbridge Chapter and The Advancement Foundation (TAF) are holding a Cyber Social Networking event on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, 5:30 - 8:00 PM, at the Virginia Innovation Accelerator (VIA), 245 W. 21st Street, Buena Vista, Virginia, 24416. The dress is business casual. This event will focus on food and water security, as well as related cyber-security, including a discussion of recent national legislation on this topic and how it impacts the Commonwealth of Virginia and our local community. The event will kick off at 6:00 pm with a brief introduction from event sponsors AFCEA and VIA followed by the speaker presentations. The panel discussion will last about 50 minutes and will be followed by a social hour providing an opportunity to network with speakers and attendees. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be provided. At past events attendees have had had the opportunity to network and build work and personal relationships with academia, industry, government and military representatives. Our communities - citizens, leaders, students, business owners, academic faculty, local government and retirees - have all benefited from past events, strengthening relationships and developing connections that serve to better the region. It's also a great opportunity for student to network in furtherance of internships and potential employment
Event Speaker: Our Featured Speakers include: Matt Lohr, the Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, discussing Agriculture Sustainability Threats. Dr. Amy Nagy, Lead Biomedical R&D Advisor, MITRE, discussing Pest and Pathogen Threats. COL David Garner, Commander of Information Operations Support Center, 91st Cyber Brigade, Virginia National Guard, presenting the Protection of Critical Infrastructure. Dr. Steve Hart, Ph.D, P.E., Virginia Farm Bureau Board Member, Educator, and local farmer, who will discuss Food Security - Local & National Perspectives. U.S. Senator Mark Warner is providing a special video message addressing Legislative Strategies and Infrastructure Threats.
