Description: |
In the era of Information Warfare, digital
disinformation and Fake News spread with
unprecedented speed and precision, influencing
public opinion and strategic decisions that can
even reshape geopolitical scenarios. At the same
time, the illegal use of electronic interceptions
by state and/or criminal actors is creating new
security challenges, threatening the
confidentiality of sensitive communications and
the credibility of information.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role
in this scenario: on one hand, it can be used to
automate and amplify disinformation campaigns and
cyber espionage; on the other, it enhances Cyber
Threat Intelligence tools, enabling real-time
detection of emerging threats and information
manipulation. In the military domain, AI
technology is currently excluded from the AI Act,
as it is classified as a military and
technological dominance tool, regulated at the
European level and officially in force since
August 2024, with full implementation expected by
2026.
Next-generation solutions are capable of
countering these hybrid threats, not only in the
Defense sector - ensuring highly secure video
communications and protecting strategic
infrastructures against cyberattacks, ransomware,
extortion, and theft of critical information - but
also in Civil Protection and National Security.
These technologies support territorial and border
monitoring, underwater domain surveillance, and
the prevention of major incidents, sabotage,
productivity losses, and the resulting
reputational damage suffered by attacked
organizations.
In this context, national and European scientific
research programs, along with industrial
initiatives, must contribute to developing
solutions that minimize cybersecurity threats
posed by technologies and software produced by
foreign adversarial nations. Strengthening the
protection capabilities of companies, critical
infrastructures, and operational assets against
cyberattacks, criminal political espionage,
terrorism, or military threats is essential, in
line with the National Framework for Cybersecurity
and Data Protection.
The event organized by AFCEA Rome Chapter aims to
explore the complex relationship between
technological innovation and cybersecurity,
analyzing how AI and Cyber Threat Intelligence can
become essential tools for defending against
hybrid threats, protecting critical
infrastructures, and preserving trust in digital
information. Through the contributions of industry
experts, security professionals, and institutional
representatives, the event will examine strategies
to counter digital threats, the related
technological implications, and electronic
interceptions in fields such as Defense, Civil
Protection, and National Security. Furthermore, it
will explore the new frontiers of information
warfare in the context of a global hybrid
conflict.
Confirmed participants so far include: The
European Centre of Excellence for Countering
Hybrid Threats, the 5th Department of the National
Armaments Directorate, Dr. Chiara Camerani
(psychologist, criminologist, researcher at the
Carabinieri Corps), Prof. Walter Quattrociocchi
from Sapienza University, Leonardo, Elettronica,
Teleconsys, and Sistemi&Automazione. |
