The digital transformation of Defence is evolving
towards increasingly integrated models, in which
the physical and digital dimensions converge into
advanced, resilient, data-driven operational
ecosystems.
In this context, technologies such as 5G and 6G
networks, LEO and GEO satellite communications,
immersive environments, Digital Twins, Artificial
Intelligence and predictive analytics tools
represent key enabling factors to ensure
information superiority, interoperability and
operational continuity within the framework of
Multi-Domain Operations.
The evolution of telecommunications
infrastructures
requires hybrid architectures capable of
dynamically integrating terrestrial and satellite
networks, ensuring "Always On" services even in
scenarios characterized by cyber threats, spoofing
and jamming activities, or attacks on critical
infrastructures. At the same time, quantum
technologies, from Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)
to post-quantum solutions, are set to play an
increasingly important role in protecting
communications and national strategic systems.
From this perspective, secure and sovereign
satellite links are becoming increasingly
important
for the resilience of the command-and-control
chain
and for the security of the national system.
At the same time, capabilities such as advanced
telemedicine, digital logistics and predictive
maintenance are evolving from simple support tools
into essential components for operational
sustainability, personnel protection and asset
lifecycle optimization.
The event also aims to highlight the role of the
national industrial ecosystem, based on
collaboration among the Armed Forces,
institutions,
universities, large enterprises, innovative SMEs
and high-tech startups, as an essential element
for
the development of interoperable and competitive
capabilities.
During the conference, an integrated vision of
future Defence communications will be outlined, in
which resilience, interoperability and multi-
domain
integration represent the main enabling factors
for
information superiority and strategic
competitiveness. The ability to replicate physical
assets in virtual environments, simulate complex
scenarios and integrate data from different
domains
makes it possible to strengthen planning, improve
coordination and accelerate decision-making
processes.
The initiative is intended to serve as a high-
level
forum for discussion among the operational
component, industry, academia and institutions,
fostering a concrete dialogue on the future
development of military communications and the
sustainability of technological capabilities in
the
medium and long term.
The event will take place on 2 July 2026 at the
Italian Army Transmission Command in Cecchignola.
