Biography

Barry J. Robella

 

Barry Robella is currently Professor of Systems Engineering at the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) after having served over thirty years in a diverse array of jobs in the U.S. Army and the Information Technology industry.  He serves as Course Director for the DAWIA Level III Advanced Software Acquisition Management course in the DAU Engineering and Technology Department. His most recent industry position was Vice President, Public Sector Business Development for SeeBeyond Technology Corporation.  In this role, Mr. Robella established and executed strategies to ensure the company maintained its leadership position bringing enterprise application integration solutions to government.  As the senior Federal business development manager, his goals were to increase market awareness and penetration through partner relationships, industry visibility and leadership on major Federal information technology initiatives.

 

Prior industry experience included Vice President, Strategic Programs for Entrust Technologies and Vice President, Strategic Programs and System Integrator Sales, Platinum Technologies.  In all positions he managed public sector strategic planning activities, government relations and was primary liaison for government and industry information technology interest groups for electronic commerce and security.  While in government service Mr. Robella was nominee for Army Project Manager of the Year and selected by the Federal Government Interagency Committee on Information Resource Management for their annual award for Management Excellence in Government.  He maintains active positions on several key government-industry association committees and special interest task forces.

 

During his military career he served in a variety of assignments in field artillery, aviation and information systems development and acquisition.  These included Flight Commander, Ft Rucker, AL;  Battery Commander, Operations and Brigade Fire Support Officer, Ft Carson, CO;  Project Officer, Standard Army Intermediate Level Supply System, Ft Lee, VA;  Chief, Hardware Systems and Project Manager for the NATO Nuclear Planning System, SHAPE, BE;  Project Manager, Installation Support Modules (ISM) and the Joint Service DoD TOPPS program, Ft Belvoir, VA.  Military awards and decorations included the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medals w/ Valor Devices (17th award), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation and Army Achievement Medals, personal award -Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Commendation Medal and the Senior Army Aviator Badge.

 

Mr. Robella earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology and is a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College.  Mr. Robella is married to the former Marilyn Phelps of Warehouse Point, Connecticut and has one son and two daughters.
