Chapter Focus | |
The Northern Virginia (NOVA) Chapter continues to focus on Department of Defense (DOD) Contractor Corporations, Intelligence Agency Contractor Corporations, and Military and Civilian personnel from throughout the DOD who specialize in Information Technology, Communications, Command & Control, and Intelligence. Additionally, NOVA has roots within the Academic Community through our subchapter at George Mason University (GMU). The Chapter works with the Service Branches, separate Commands and various military organizations in the Northern Virginia area including the Pentagon, DISA, Defense Health Agency, National Guard, Corps of Engineers, etc. Our events include monthly luncheons with speakers from the DOD; five separate IT Days for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Intelligence Community and Small Business; quarterly Small Business Breakfasts; an annual golf tournament; an annual Executive Round Table for corporate table holders; regular networking events; an annual volunteer appreciation dinner; an annual scholarship recipient banquet; and Mentor-Protégé events for Young AFCEANs. Our Young AFCEAN program also provides insight about the Department of Defense with unique introductory sessions for members who have not had exposure to the services (our DOD 101 series). This helps those members expand their awareness of the different ways to engage with senior DOD (and government) leaders as they mature and grow within their respective career fields. The Chapter supports the Women in NOVA (WIN) initiative to expand the participation of, and opportunities available to, women in the chapter by holding quarterly breakfasts that encourage engagement between women in the business community and those in government. These sessions offer examples of how to succeed in this very technically oriented domain and mutual support from those involved at all levels of leadership within the government and industry. | |
