Chapter Focus
The GOC of Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association, located at Offutt AFB Nebraska, is a non-profit group focused on providing a common forum for government, military, industry, and academia to exchange information, explore technical advancements, and expand their IT perspectives. Our membership predominantly comes from Offutt AFB (55th Wing, US Strategic Command, 557th Weather Wing, and 50+ tenant units) as well as our local industry and academic partners in the Bellevue and Omaha communities. Our goal is to award more than $10K annually in scholarships and grants. The scholarships are awarded to assist deserving students pursuing college curriculum in areas directly related to science, technology, engineering or math career fields. Additionally, we provide teaching grants to noteworthy school science programs, a monetary awards for the local science fair winners, and a small award to the local robotics competition. In addition to monthly luncheons with intriguing guest speakers, we highlight the accomplishments of our program sponsors through our "Sponsor of the Month" program. We have a thriving Young AFCEAN program. Their activities range from tour groups, to special presentations by senior executive level managers, as well as a host of volunteer opportunities. Membership is intended solely to enhance one's development as a communications and electronics professional. The chapter hosts an annual golf tournament to help sustain our goals, and we are supporting the annual TechExpo which helps bolster our scholarship program. We host an annual charity golf tournament to raise money for our scholarship program. In addition, some chapter BoD members actively participate the Omaha Chamber of Commerce STEM subcommittee as well as serving as honorary chairpersons for the annual Metropolitan Science and Engineering Fair. These opportunities provide a way to highlight AFCEA and the efforts of the local chapter to get more IT professionals and local businesses engaged in AFCEA, and spread the word on the chapter's STEM scholarship opportunities.
