Chapter Focus
The GOC of Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association, located at Offutt AFB Nebraska, is a non-profit group focused on providing a common forum for government, military, industry, and academia to exchange information, explore technical advancements, and expand their IT perspectives. Our goal is to award more than $10K annually in scholarships and grants. The scholarships are awarded to assist deserving students pursuing college curriculum in areas directly related to science, technology, engineering or math career fields. Additionally, we provide teaching grants to noteworthy school science programs, a monetary awards for the local science fair winners, and a small award to the local robotics competition. In addition to monthly luncheons with intriguing guest speakers, we highlight the accomplishments of our program sponsors through our "Sponsor of the Month" program. We have a thriving Young AFCEAN program. Their activities range from tour groups, to special presentations by senior executive level managers, as well as a host of volunteer opportunities. Membership is intended solely to enhance one's development as a communications and electronics professional. The chapter hosts an annual golf tournament to help sustain our goals, and we are supporting the annual TechExpo which helps bolster our scholarship program. We conducted our annual golf tournament in May where 11 different companies sponsored some aspect of the tournament. Additionally, the tournament featured 6 different vendor booths directly on the grounds where these companies touted their wares for all to see. The event was heralded as a success for all. In addition, some chapter BoD members actively participated the Omaha Chamber of Commerce STEM subcommittee as well as serving as honorary chairpersons for the 38th Annual Metropolitan Science and Engineering Fair. These opportunities provided a way to highlight AFCEA and the efforts of the local chapter to get more IT professionals and local businesses engaged in AFCEA, and spread the word on the chapter's STEM scholarship opportunities.
