|The South Carolina Low Country Chapter primarily services the Charleston segment of the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic. NIWC Atlantic (formerly SPAWAR Systems Atlantic) is the U.S. Navy's designated Technical Authority and acquisition command for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) business IT and space systems and is comprised of more than 12,000 highly-dedicated employees and contractors.
The chapter is located near Joint Base Charleston, which includes the Charleston Air Force Base (CAFB) and the Naval Weapons Station, where most of the NIWC business is located as well as the Navy's Nuclear Power Training Command and the Army's Strategic Logistics Activity. Also located in the Charleston area is a Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, U.S. State Department Passport Processing Office, U.S Coast Guard Sector maintenance facility as well as Coast Guard Group Charleston.
Chapter activities include a quarterly lunch; an annual holiday luncheon free to members (which is when the results of the annual elections are announced); an annual scholarship luncheon, (where scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who are pursuing technical career tracks in college); and two golf tournaments (Spring and Fall) - proceeds from which fund our STEM grants and scholarships, and educational efforts. The Chapter also participates in all quarterly Small Business and Industry Outreach Initiatives and the annual C5ISR Government and Industry Partnership Summit all held in North Charleston, South Carolina, both of which are attended by local military command personnel as well as high-level speakers from all military branches.
