Middle and high school student teams from 14 states will gather next week for CyberPatriot, a culminating competition in which they will be tested defend computers against cyberattacks.

After months of preparation, the CyberPatriot event on March 28 will test students on their defensive measures and skills to trounce cyber and computer vulnerabilities, a much-needed emerging skill in the cybersecurity industry.

CyberPatriot, part of the Air Force Association’s National Youth Cyber Education Program, preps students in fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM.

The teams will need to identify and remediate cyber vulnerabilities. This year’s competition, held in Washington, D.C., includes a digital cyber crime scene challenge.

During the past three years, CyberPatriot’s sponsor, the Northrop Grumman Foundation, has awarded $158,000 in scholarships to the winning teams.
