From the Desk of AFCEA’s Small Business Committee: A Subcommittee Spotlight

Committee Corner

AFCEA Small Business Committee (SBC) is comprised of corporate member associates who volunteer time and expertise to help the largest segment of AFCEA’s corporate membership community learn, network and grow. The fiscal year 2023 is led by Chair Joshua Duvall, shareholder, Maynard Cooper Gale and Vice Chair Katie Helwig, co-founder, Mild Red LLC.

A key committee objective is to “test drive” programs and ideas for AFCEA International and work out any kinks or issues before offering a “program in a box” for AFCEA’s chapters to emulate and/or improve.

A new initiative is the SBC Influencers subcommittee, co-led by Sridhara Gutti, Essnova Solutions, and Will Swann, Watershed Security. The subcommittee’s mission is to educate, create and promote small business programs and initiatives within the AFCEA community by posting on social media and using #AFCEA and #AFCEASmallBusiness. Since the program began in October, followers for both hashtags have increased dramatically and continue to gain followers each month. The subcommittee is engaging with both active and inactive chapters to increase visibility and to promote engagement with #AFCEA and #educate #smallbusiness on how to grow within the #GovCON community.

Other initiatives include candid discussions such as the BD/Capture Panel for AFCEA SBC’s Center of Excellence (CoE)/Mentor-Protégé program. The CoE/Mentor-Protégé program is co-led by Sangita Subramanian, OM Group Inc., and Alison Gonzalez, AMERICAN SYSTEMS.

Each month, SIGNAL Magazine publishes a feature in the Committee Corner to highlight news you can use from AFCEA’s various committees. Committee leaders should submit entries to sjontz@afcea.org.
