ChatGPT Mil To Roll Out New Capabilities

OpenAI for Government experts talk about upcoming additions to the online resource at TechNet Indo-Pacific.

Having launched ChatGPT Mil just two months ago, the Pentagon is working alongside industry partner OpenAI to bring further frontier artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to the department.

The move comes as part of a greater GenAI.mil initiative, a department-wide generative AI resource, which was announced in late 2025. In July, Department of War (DOW) Chief Digital and AI Officer Cameron Stanley said 1.7 million users had joined the platform.

The day before the official kickoff of TechNet Indo-Pacific 2026 in Honolulu, Hawaii, OpenAI for Government hosted a panel session to provide tips and guidelines on how to most effectively use ChatGPT Mil.

Leading the discussion were OpenAI for Government’s Amanda Bullock, enablement lead; and Lina Coss, adoption, content and community manager.

From tool personalization to end-of-year evaluations, Bullock and Coss outlined the variety of capabilities offered through the frontier AI platform. Likewise, the two announced a few additions anticipated to be rolled out in the coming months.

“Memory is one of those things that’ll be coming,” Bullock noted, having discussed the personalization and memory capabilities available through ChatGPT Mil. “If you choose to have memory turned on, nightly, ChatGPT Mil will remember things about your project, only for this project. It does not go across other surfaces.”

Users can then select whether they would like the memory deleted or regenerated.

Bullock also noted that training and webinar sessions are available to users through online resources. “We have a contract with [the Office of the Secretary of War Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office] where we can come to your organization and provide you with training at no cost to you,” she said.

Additionally, the OpenAI Academy Government Community is available to all users with a .gov address. The platform is a forum for those within the military and public sector to access free resources such as webinars and training sessions, Coss said.

Bullock also spoke on an upcoming announcement.

“Document generation, artifact generation. I’m sure none of you ever have to create PowerPoints or PDFs or Excel documents, right?” she quipped. “We know that is lifeblood of what you do in the [Department of War]. It is coming very, very soon. Likely before the end of the year.”

TechNet Indo-Pacific is co-sponsored by AFCEA International and AFCEA Hawaii. SIGNAL Media is the official media of AFCEA International.
