Hamas has applied its thinking to scenarios that employ simpler technologies.

Latex-powered devices were employed to transport incendiary devices to Israel. Nevertheless, the appearance of an “air force” on the battlefield was a surprise.

“They advanced from incendiary condoms to paragliders. That was pretty impressive,” said Tahani Mustafa, senior Palestine analyst at the international crisis group.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists attacked a music festival close to the border between Gaza and Israel using propelled parachutes. These paragliders were used for the first time in this attack, according to Janes, a defense think tank.

Hamas also tried to employ skiffs and swimmers to reach Israel through water, but these were not as effective as their airborne counterparts, having been neutralized as they swam toward the shore, according to Marine Insight, a specialized publication.
