Joint and coalition relationships that begin long before forces meet on the field have become a cornerstone of defense policies and officials in the military’s cybersecurity training arena are working to make sure the same holds true in the newest battlespace domain as well. Troops from the various armed forces branches already are attending education courses together, no matter which service sponsors the class, and in some cases coalition partners also are participating.

Harry Wingo, senior vice president, strategic initiatives for Circadence Corporation, develops strategies to align development efforts with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Congressional and Executive Branch priorities, and communicates the value of Circadence’s cyber range technology and solutions to national defense and governmental leaders. He is a former Navy SEAL officer and a member of the AFCEA Cybersecurity Committee. He previously served as the deputy national cyber director.

In welcoming attendees to TechNet Land Forces East today, Sen. Barbara Mikulski emphasized that the military and civilian agencies represented at TechNet Land Forces must continue their work to build up the “thin cybersecurity shield,” and that citizens and leaders alike must disabuse themselves of the notion that cyberattacks “are something that will happen in the future.” On the contrary, they are happening with more frequency.
