Business Focus:
The University of Arizona Applied Research Corporation leverages the University of Arizona's research strengths to create economic alliances with Arizona and the nation's defense and security industries. Arizona has the fifth-largest aerospace and defense economy in the country and is home to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Fort Huachuca, Raytheon, and others with whom the UA already has strong relationships. Led by Austin Yamada, with decades of executive national security experience in government, industry, and academia and as former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense in Special Operations and Combating Terrorism, the UA-ARC enhances the University's valued partnerships by matching the research needs of defense and security initiatives with our equipment and expertise.

The University of Arizona Applied Research Corporation leverages the research strengths of the University of Arizona across multiple fields of expertise with the aim of continued funding growth, innovation, and economic development in the University's strategic plan. The UA-ARC was launched in Dec 2018 with three major objectives: To help identify and coordinate significant defense and security research opportunities To help UA faculty and research teams obtain new sources of funding through interdisciplinary collaborations and public and private partnerships to serve as the UA's front door to the external defense community The UA-ARC aims to expand the University's strengths in those areas while helping the UA to reach its goal of increasing research expenditures from $600 million to $756.6 million by 2025. The UA-ARC provides defense and security related agency expertise, and puts in place mechanisms to support and facilitate research that supports defense and security customers. These mechanisms include contract vehicles, facilities, and access to other transaction authorities that will help build UA's reputation as a ""trusted partner"" to develop, leverage, and expand collaborations with the government, industry, and academia.
