For those working in academia, finding the best way to annotate, manage and share papers can be complicated. The PaperShip app for iPad and iPhone targets the scientific community and makes it easier to download, read and manage a personal library of research.

The basic version of the app syncs with the popular Zotero and Mendeley libraries, giving access to all the available items on a mobile device. You can browse, read and save literature with the built-in PDF reader and manage the content through folders and favorites. For a one-time fee, the app offers annotation tools, including the ability to make notes, highlight text, draw or add shapes and stamps, add audio recordings and more. You can also share content with colleagues by email or social media.

PaperShip links articles with Web metrics to show the impact of the publication inside the scientific community in real time.

Note: PaperShip requires a Zotero or Mendeley account.

Download the app from the iTunes App Store. Update: PaperShip is now available for Mac for $9.99.
