DLA Contract Allows Healthcare Workers to Access Battelle's Decontamination for N95 Masks During COVID-19 Pandemic

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) issued a contract to Columbus, Ohio-based Battelle Memorial Institute to provide decontamination for N95 respirator masks as part of Battelle's CCDS Critical Care Decontamination System. Under the contract, healthcare providers can use the decontamination services for free. Battelle is operating its CCDS Critical Care Decontamination System at locations in central Ohio, Long Island, New York and Washington state, with plans to expand to Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, and the Washington, DC area. As part of the contract, the cost of decontaminating the masks will be funded up to $400 million across 60 deployment sites, as a means of protecting healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a release from Battelle. The contracting activity comes from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Since bringing the first system online, we have received hundreds of requests for CCDS systems and services,” said Matt Vaughan, Battelle’s Contract Research President. “The contract awarded to Battelle will allow us to staff additional systems to provide a continuous buffer against current and future N95 supply chain challenges. Battelle is thankful for the federal government’s support, including the teams at FEMA, DLA, and HHS.”
