Charles (Chuck) R. Corjay, a Distinguished Life Member of AFCEA, passed away on March 17. He was 86.

Corjay joined AFCEA in 1972 and held almost every chapter officer position throughout his career at the association. For 12 years he was a regional vice president, supporting multiple chapters in the Mid-West, Mid-South and National Capital regions, and also served on the international board of directors.

A veteran of the Air Force, Corjay helped build the Northern Virginia (NOVA) Chapter from a sub-chapter of Washington DC to the largest AFCEA chapter. At its height, NOVA had more than 7,000 members.

In 1993, he received the General James Rockwell AFCEAN of the Year Award. In 1998, he earned the Admiral Boyes Medal for Distinguished Service to AFCEA; and in 2001 he received the AFCEA Chairman’s award for Superior Performance. Corjay is the only person to have received all three of AFCEA’s highest awards.

Additionally, Corjay designed and presented AFCEA’s Career Transition Seminar to assist active duty military with the transition to industry. Affectionately called “Godfather,” he was a friend, mentor and coach to all who crossed his path. He was especially happy to help young leaders grow.

In recognition of Corjay’s efforts, in 2015 the NOVA Chapter established the annual Chuck Corjay Educational Scholarship in his honor. This scholarship is presented to a student with an exemplary background of service to the country and community, academic accomplishment and commitment to pursuing STEM degrees in fields that support national security. This award recognizes Corjay’s unflinching, continued contributions to the chapter’s STEM education programs.
