Virtualization Enables Infrastructure Interoperability, Optimization and Resiliency
With the emergence of High Throughput Satellites (HTS) such as those from Hughes and Viasat, High Capacity Satellites (HCS) from operators like Intelsat and SES, as well as new Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations from companies like OneWeb, SpaceX, and Amazon to name a few, proprietary waveforms and terminals are often developed to optimize the performance within those purpose-built networks. Up until now, users would need to employ disparate purpose-built and often proprietary hardware to access these constellations and networks.
Virtualization, not to be confused with the notion of a Software Defined Radio allows users who require satellite network flexibility and resiliency to benefit from the ability to operate across these various networks, satellites, and constellations without having to carry and interconnect numerous proprietary platforms.
