AFCEAN of the Month, November 2022

Jeannette Bernardo, Silicon Valley chapter

Each month SIGNAL Magazine publishes the outstanding contributions of dedicated AFCEA individuals. These devoted members give so much of themselves for the good of their chapters and AFCEA International. Another example of a long-term AFCEA member who has given so much to the Silicon Valley Chapter is AFCEA Life Member Jeannette Bernardo. The chapter is honored to have Bernardo as an active contributor since 2000. Currently, she is the chapter secretary and treasurer and has assisted four chapter presidents over a 22-year period.

In the beginning of her AFCEA service, Bernardo was a key contributor volunteer at two of the three MILCOM events held in the Northern California region (Monterey 2004, San Jose 2010). In this capacity, Bernardo actively supported two MILCOM events with many volunteer hours per day for these three-day conferences. Along with other volunteers, she proactively assisted many exhibitors and thousands of paid attendees, making their conference a meaningful experience and a key benefit for their paid admission. Approximately $2,000 was given to the chapter for each MILCOM event. These funds were then applied to the chapter’s Educational Fund to be utilized over the following years for worthy elementary, high school and college students enrolled in STEM programs.

There is not just a single activity or chapter event for which Bernardo should be recognized. Her achievements are measured by her consistent, unbroken and dedicated service to the chapter and its operations for more than 20 years. Whenever the chapter has been invited as an exhibitor to attend cyber conferences, Bernardo has supported the AFCEA display booth. Also, the chapter has taken part as a volunteer organization to support two large government conferences held at the Marines Memorial–San Francisco in the past. Again, Bernardo represented the chapter and assisted the sponsor organization with attendee registration and program coordination activities.

As the chapter treasurer, Bernardo provides the chapter president and board financial reports on the two chapter bank accounts and annually files the required IRS report.

Previously, she worked many years for Bart and Associates (B&A), headquartered in McLean, Virginia. B&A is a leading information technology systems integrator providing solutions for various government contracts. Upon leaving B&A in 2012, Bernardo embarked on establishing her own company. She is currently the CEO of a small woman-owned business called Filius Corporation. The company’s line of business includes providing contractor logistics support for special government programs from Washington, D.C., to Silicon Valley.

For her many contributions and lengthy dedication to AFCEA International and the Silicon Valley Chapter, AFCEA proudly names Jeannette Bernardo AFCEAN of the Month.
