CISA To Host the Fifth President’s Cup Cybersecurity Competition

Aiming to empower cyber talent within federal agencies, CISA will host team and individual games. The awards ceremony is set to take place at the White House.

The Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) will be hosting the fifth annual President’s Cup Cybersecurity Competition beginning January 3. The event, which aims to enhance cyber talent within the federal workforce, will address the rise in cyber threats across the globe.

“Our country needs a strong and vast workforce filled with cyber talent to understand, manage and reduce risk to our cyber and physical infrastructure,” says CISA spokesperson. The President’s Cup games help recognize and reward cybersecurity professionals on the front lines, many of whom are not acknowledged due to “the nature of their work.”

In accordance with its 2023-2025 Strategic Plan, CISA intends to advance its “capability to actively detect threats across federal and state, local, tribal and territorial networks while working with industry partners to enhance [its] understanding of threats targeting private networks.”

All the challenges within the President’s Cup will be tied to work roles and tasks from the Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (also known as NICE) to ensure relevance and relation to real-world topics.

Participants will have the option to choose between a Teams or Individual track—or both. The Teams competition can have up to five players from different departments or agencies. The Individual competition, however, will offer a defense and an offense track to choose from.
