White House Announces DHS CIO Nominee
Acting Defense Department CIO to move to Homeland Security.
The White House announced on October 26 the intent to appoint John Zangardi, acting chief information officer (CIO) at the Department of Defense, to be the CIO for the Department of Homeland Security.
The announcement states that Zangardi has extensive experience in information technology and security and that he previously served as the principal deputy CIO for the Defense Department. According to the White House, he is a retired U.S. Navy flight officer with experience in acquisition, policy, legislative affairs, resourcing and operations, and he has served as Navy CIO and as the deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, information operations and space.
