Committee Corner
By Membership Committee Co-Chairs Trevor Bender and Dean Smith

Relocating can be an exciting experience. Local AFCEA chapters are encouraged to help members remain connected through relocations. As AFCEA is a global association with 139 local chapters, staying connected while moving can help you maintain valuable professional relationships and access to industry resources.

Here’s how you can stay involved:

  • Transfer Membership: Ensure your membership and contact information is updated with your new location. Visit the AFCEA website to find a chapter near you. Most chapters welcome transferring members warmly and provide guidance on how to get involved.
  • Virtual Participation: Many chapters host virtual events, webinars and online discussions. These activities let you stay connected with your current or previous chapter, even while settling into a new city.
  • Use Online Resources: AFCEA’s website and social media platforms are treasure troves of information. Use these to find events, training sessions and chapter updates. Following your current and former chapters’ social media accounts is a great way to stay engaged.
  • Chapter Warm Hand-Off: Local chapter officers and members may have significant connections across the association. As members prepare for a relocation, local chapters can connect relocating members to other chapters in their new city for a positive transition into new roles.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteering is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in your new chapter. Offer your skills or time to chapter programs to help forge connections with fellow members.
  • Leverage AFCEA’s Global Network: As a member of a global organization, you can stay in touch with peers from previous chapters, fostering relationships that transcend geographic boundaries. Moving doesn’t have to disrupt your connection to AFCEA. By actively engaging with the organization’s diverse offerings, you can ensure that your membership remains a valuable part of your professional journey.

Each month, SIGNAL Magazine publishes a feature in the Committee Corner to highlight news you can us from AFCEA’s committees. Committee leaders should submit entries to Sandra Jontz.
