Emert Receives Women in Maritime IT Award
The AFCEA International team congratulates Director of Diversity Susan Emert on her recognition as the recipient of the inaugural Women in Maritime IT Award from the Hampton Roads Chapter.
Emert’s ever-evolving duties at AFCEA International have included manager of Member and Chapter Services and director of Individual Membership and Awards. As director of diversity, Emert brings together diverse women leaders across information technology and cyber domains to discuss the best ways to address global challenges and remain resilient as the world’s most strategic warfighters.
Emert’s passion and involvement with each of the AFCEA chapters, and especially individual loyal AFCEA members, highlights her dedication to being a role model for all in the community—women and men. She thanks all who have been along for the ride.
“I am so honored to receive the inaugural Women in Maritime IT 2022 Award on behalf of all the volunteer women leaders throughout AFCEA who have worked so hard over the past nine years to raise the visibility of women and create leadership opportunities in our community.”
Throughout all her roles, Emert’s enthusiastic support and mentorship highly impacted the Hampton Roads Chapter in all the best ways. The chapter noted that it was Emert’s “counsel and guidance … which helped facilitate [the chapter’s] rise to one of the preeminent AFCEA chapters,” as exemplified by their recent Harry C. Ingles Award win.
"To win this award from the Hampton Roads Chapter, who I admire so much for everything they do to highlight the role of women in Maritime IT, makes it extra special. My heartfelt thanks to Teresa Duvall, Palmer Sims, Tim Harschutz and the rest of the chapter team.”
Congratulations, Susan! Thank you for all you do.
