After 35 years of dedicated service to AFCEA International, Nancy Temple has announced her plan to retire at the end of the calendar year, marking the end of a tremendous era for the association.

Temple has been a cornerstone of success and growth for AFCEA and its Educational Foundation. Her impact has been immeasurable, and she leaves a legacy of dedication, compassion and professionalism. Her current roles as international secretary, vice president for human resources and support, and vice president of the AFCEA Educational Foundation reflect just a portion of the incredible breadth of her contributions. Her fingerprints can be found on numerous initiatives that have advanced AFCEA’s mission, particularly our powerful commitment to education, innovation and community impact.

“Nancy has not only helped steer our governance processes, staff operations and HR strategy, she has been instrumental in advancing our educational mission for the Educational Foundation through STEM-based scholarships, teacher grants and awards that have improved numerous lives,” said AFCEA President and CEO Lt. Gen. Susan S. Lawrence, USA (Ret.). “Her dedication to resurrecting our annual AFCEA Educational Foundation golf tournament has been nothing less than FOREmidable!”

“Her leadership has been visionary and grounded,” Lawrence added. “Nancy’s ability to connect with people has helped shape the culture of this organization. Her departure will be deeply felt, but her legacy will endure.”

Temple has been a powerhouse since joining AFCEA the first time in 1985 for eight years. From the early days of working in the office of the international secretary and supporting the association’s overseas offices to helping run the career center and career planning seminars, managing the service center and her committee stewardship, Temple tackled each post with sharp strategic insight mixed with sensitivity, mentorship and commitment to excellence. After her return in 1999, she served as vice president of the AFCEA Building Service Corporation.

“Working at AFCEA has been one of the greatest privileges of my life,” Temple said. “It’s been an honor to serve alongside so many passionate, intelligent and mission-driven individuals. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

As we celebrate Temple’s remarkable career and wish her the very best in her retirement, Lawrence is thrilled to announce that Tammy Goehring will step into Temple’s role beginning January 1, 2026. Goehring brings more than 20 years of strategic leadership experience in conference, event and program management.

“Tammy’s time at AFCEA—both with our national security and defense team and previously in the membership department—has shown her to be an innovative thinker, a collaborative leader and someone deeply committed to our mission,” Lawrence said. “Her work establishing the Small Business Program in 2008 is just one example of how Tammy has helped shape AFCEA’s outreach and impact and secure future successes for AFCEA. She is an accomplished communicator with a reputation for diplomacy and tact under pressure.”

Goehring’s background in accounting and finance, coupled with her master’s degree in management, make her uniquely equipped to lead in this next phase. More importantly, her values, integrity and enthusiasm for serving others make her an ideal fit to build upon Temple’s significant contributions.
