How Former Federal Employees Can Find the Right Job Opportunities
With the rise in federal employee layoffs comes an increase in hiring scams across networking platforms like LinkedIn and fake recruiting websites targeting federal employees. Some scams are also making their way into voicemail and email inboxes.
These scammers may say they need experienced federal workers and request a federal resume, proof of security clearances and payment of fees for training and background checks.
To avoid scams, those looking for work should be wary of recruiters who comment on layoff posts about the next great opportunity. Fake recruiters may use artificial intelligence-generated photos, have little to no work experience in their LinkedIn profiles and include a link to an external website in place of the blue “connections/followers” link under their names.
It's best to fact-check by observing the recruiter’s location, follower count and comment history—specifically in search of similar comments. It’s also important to note that scammers can create fake company reviews on sites like Glassdoor.
To verify a government contract or entity, people can search SAM.gov or check a website by entering it into whois.com.
