NASA Hosts $1 Million Technology Challenge

Effort aims to pull in entrepreneurs with advanced technologies in machine learning, artificial intelligence, autonomy, robotics, and advanced sensors.

NASA's Science Mission Directorate is partnering with Los Angeles-based aerospace technology accelerator Starburst in offering a $1 million prize challenge. Known as the Entrepreneurs Challenge, the effort is meant to pull in state-of-the-art technology from individuals and corporations in three technology areas: physics-based transfer learning and artificial intelligence; advanced mass spectrometry; and quantum sensors.

“With the Entrepreneurs Challenge, NASA is reducing the barriers for individuals and early-stage companies to engage with our various programs,” the agency stated. “Understanding the need for speed and reduced paperwork, NASA's Science Mission Directorate has partnered with Starburst to create a collaboration opportunity that seeks to eliminate these new barriers in new ways.”

Applications to participate in the challenge are due by June 26, NASA said, and the agency also will be hosting two “Ask Me Anything” events before the submission deadline on June 9 and June 23 to answer any questions potential participants might have.
