Quinn Eisenhower
YEARS AS AN ENGINEER: 2
COLLEGE ATTENDED: Virginia Tech
COLLEGE MAJOR/DEGREE: B.S. Mechanical Engineering
EXPLAIN YOUR CURRENT JOB ROLE: I am a mechanical design engineer for an HVAC construction company. We design systems for heating, cooling, ventilating and conditioning the air in buildings. Our company has had a lot of cool projects, such as helping design and build the Atlanta Falcons stadium, the African American History Museum and the Museum of the Bible, as well as being involved in reconstructing the Pentagon after 9/11. Right now, I’m working on the Panasonic electric vehicle battery factory. It’s going to be the largest battery plant in the world when it’s done!
WHY DID YOU BECOME AN ENGINEER? I became an engineer because I love to know how and why things work. If you like puzzles/challenges and using your creativity to solve problems, mechanical engineering is a great career path.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOUR JOB? My favorite thing about my job is that we are expected to be constantly innovating and coming up with new and interesting ideas. Each project is very different from the last, and I am always finding new challenges to tackle.
WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING THING ABOUT YOUR JOB? The most difficult part of my job is making sure that all of my designs are constructable and easy to install in the field. It is important to maintain relationships with tradesmen who actually build these systems, as they have lots of experience and knowledge that can make all the difference.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR KIDS? Take your schoolwork seriously and learn how to solve difficult challenges. I did not study HVAC design in school, but I learned how to work hard and come up with creative solutions to problems. If you learn how to be a problem solver, you can achieve anything!
