Blue Star Families and the National Endowment for the Arts have partnered to create the Blue Star Museums, a group of 750 museums in all 50 states that offer free admission to military personnel and their families through Labor Day, September 6, 2010. The program is available to bearers of a Geneva Conventions common access card, a DD Form 1173 identification card or a DD form 1173-1 identification card, and five immediate family members. On the website, an interactive map of the United States enables users to click specific states to find participating museums and links to their sites. People who take advantage of the free admission are encouraged to share their experiences on the Blue Star Museums Blog. Homefront Help has a Facebook page where visitors can gather and share information.

Rita, Thanks so much for highlighting our amazing program, Blue Star Museums. We now have over 850 museums participating nationwide! We are so thrilled with the participation from museums, who truly honor military families. We hope many families are taking this chance to enjoy a special outing at no cost. We've heard from many who are! It's wonderful. If anyone has any questions about Blue Star Museums, they are welcome to email museums@bluestarfam.org. We're also offering a contest with the program. The grand prize is a $500 savings bond, three first place prizewinners each will receive a $250 savings bond, and three second place prizewinners each will receive a $100 savings bond. The contest is open to all military children ages 3 to 17. Military children include any child who has a parent or sibling (including step-parents and siblings) serving on active duty, in the reserves or in the National Guard Children who enter will send a picture or photos from a museum visit or inspired by Blue Star Museums, with a short description of why they are glad they got to visit the museum. All art will include, in some way, the blue star. Entries may be emailed to museums@bluestarfam.org in a PDF or JPG format. A panel of judges from Blue Star Families will select the winners, and winning artwork will be displayed on the Blue Star Families Web site and in the Blue Star Museums book. Winners will be announced on October 8, 2010. The contest runs from July 1, 2010 through September 12, 2010. For more details about the contest and entries, see the contest rules and guidelines at http://bluestarfam.org/drupal/?q=node/3062.

Julie, You're welcome. We're always happy to spread the word about great programs like this one. Thank you for passing on the information about the contest. Rita
